Disney+ Magic Kingdom TV Universe in Development
Updated: 4 days ago
Lesley Goldberg, at The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that a Magic Kingdom TV Universe is in the works at Disney+ by Ron Moore.
The article mentions that Disney is preparing to bring the characters from its theme parks and classic films to life in a brand-new way, with the first project in this universe set to be The Society of Explorers and Adventurers – which is “set in a world where all the themed lands and characters of the Disney parks and classic films actually exist in another reality”.
Disney is set to join forces with Ron Moore, the mind behind series such as Outlander, Battlestar Galactica and the Apple TV+ series, For All Mankind. If the series is successful, it is believed that Ron Moore will begin to expand the Magic Kingdom universe and will see Moore take on a Kevin Feige-esque role, overseeing the development of the franchise for Disney+
THR also reports that the idea is to incorporate characters like the Jungle Cruise sea boat captain the Big Thunder Mountain prospector, or even the Matterhorn climbers within the series. Note: THR states these are not on the table for the series, at the moment – simply concepts for the series, and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Moore is also notably attached to the Swiss Family Robinson series, with Tall Ship Productions (Moore’s production company) set to produce alongside director Jon M. Chu on the series headed to Disney+ sometime in the future.
Who do you want to see show up in the Society of Explorers and Adventurers? Personally, I’d love to see Red, from Pirates of the Caribbean, or even some elements of the Haunted Mansion pop up! What about the Tiki Room!
Until next time, happy streaming!
