Servant is an TV+ original produced by M. Night Shyamalan and, before you close the tab, please hear me out - it's really great! Servant stars Nell Tiger Free, Toby Kebbell, Lauren Ambrose and Rupert Grint. It follows a couple who hire a nanny to look after their child as the wife returns to her job as a news anchor covering the grisly Philadelphian(?) streets. There's something not right though, because the baby is actually a life-like doll modelled after their actual son, who mysteriously died some time ago.
This is such a slow burn, at times it reminded me of watching - wait for it - network television! In all seriousness, though, the show is dark and twisted; whilst it may take a little bit of time to pay things off, those crescendos are so worth it. The show is told over half-hour episodes which, in and of themselves contain very little movement, but when you take a step back and look at the character progression from Episodes 1 through 10, you really get a sense that this is a show with a beginning, middle and end.
Because this is a Thoughts On..., I won't spoil some of the twists. All I'll say is this: the second season premieres on TV+ on 15 January, so you'd better hope you're caught up by then. If you haven't, Uncle George might squeeze your chicken.
Until then, happy streaming!
